Sundance Canyon Academy is a residential treatment program specializing in helping troubled teen boys overcome the challenges associated with emotional and behavioral issues. Our unique program addresses common issues like Depression, Anxiety, Substance Abuse, Defiance, Social/Self-Esteem issues and Developmental difficulties.We differ from other schools because we do not use behavior modification in our approach to therapy. We have found that our relationship based, holistic model is more effective in allowing students to identify and address the factors that lead to anger, anxiety and poor choices. Our main goal is to take care of the root of the problem, rather than just treat the resulting symptoms. Through active listening, empathy and attunement, we provide a safe and structured environment where each student can be the agent of his own change.
Our therapeutic and educational approach is specifically designed to help each student learn to eliminate negative behaviors and gain confidence in his strengths. Our highly qualified therapists, counselors and staff are dedicated to making each part of the program as effective as possible.

Students experience therapeutic intervention through Group, Individual and Family therapies. We have incorporated the Why Try Model (www.whytry.org),a nationally lauded one-on-one counseling tool, into our program and have seen great success with its strength based approach. In addition, our Fine Arts and Recreational Education program, which includesCulinary Arts, Music and Outdoor Recreation promotes creativity and healthy relationship building. As each student’s learning environment expands, they are able to approach therapy on a level that is personal to them which allows them to develop the vulnerability they need to make real changes.
Education
We provide a nationally accredited academic curriculum for students that are struggling with school. In addition the usual requirements, we also offer an experiential education program that can be used toward for certification or specialized education credits. The environment that our education program provides encourages kids to develop new skills and take on new responsibilities. We help teens not only get a handle on their grades, but also set the stage to become life-long learners.
